Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder. It is also a spectrum disorder. Children with Autism have special strengths along with their challenges.

At Family Tree, it is our goal to address these special needs and utilize their strengths to help overcome obstacles in communication, learning and movement. We take a developmental approach to understanding how to work with the child and their whole family, not just working on isolated skills.

Our philosophy includes presuming competence in our children and devoting our therapy to facilitating communication, improving relating through developmental play and progressing academic performance by developing foundational sensory and motor patterns, and strengthening overall regulatory skills. Our general goals include improving relating through developmental play and progressing academic performance by understanding movement differences and developing communication opportunities. This may include the use of alternative, augmentative communication devices, such as an iPad, as we work with the whole child to find the solutions that are right for them. We work closely with families as well as offering suggestions for school to assist with our progress in therapy being carried over to each situation that the child encounters.
